According to police, a 49-year-old Ohio man was arrested twice in one evening for drunk driving. A police officer first stopped the man at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2017, in response to a call regarding an impaired driver. The man ran through a stop sign posted at the intersection of Owsley Road and Salt Springs Road. Police reported that the man was emotionally distraught and blamed his wife for contacting the police.
The police located marijuana and numerous empty beer cans in the vehicle. After failing a sobriety test and not being able to stand on one leg, the man was arrested and transported to the Weathersfield Police Department. According to information from the police report, as officers attempted to have him undergo a Breathalyzer test, the man resisted and made repeated references to his genitalia.
Due to a lack of vacancies in the Trumbull County Jail, the man was released into the custody of his wife at home. At around 9 p.m., a police officer spotted the man walking on Ohio Avenue near Sixth Street. The man had been advised earlier to remain at home for the evening.
The man yelled expletives and directed a rude hand gesture to the officer who was driving by. According to the arresting officers, the man threatened to fight them and struck his head on the police cruiser.
The man was charged with multiple offenses. They included resisting arrest, OVI, traffic violations, assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
