Man charged with OVI after walking into highway traffic

On Nov. 3, drivers reported a man standing in Ohio highway traffic after his car reportedly broke down on the side of the road. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found him trying to drive the vehicle on just a rim with no tire.

Before the authorities caught up with the man, several drivers that were traveling on westbound Ronald Reagan Highway in Blue Ash called 911 regarding a man that was standing in the roadway. They said that they were worried they may hit the man as he was trying to change a tire.

When authorities reached the scene, dash cam video showed that the man went right back towards the road after being stopped by police. He also had banged his forehead on the vehicle, resulting in a bleeding head wound. When the 47-year-old man was asked if he had been drinking, he responded that he was positive that he was not drunk. He was eventually taken into custody and charged with OVI. He posted bond on Nov. 6 and was expected to go back to court on Nov. 7.

Ohio takes drunk driving charges very seriously, meaning the consequences can be stiff. In addition to legal consequences, which could include a jail sentence, those accused of drunk driving also may face administrative consequences, which could include a license suspension. Since these consequences can have a major impact on a person's life and ability to work, a criminal law attorney may work quickly to reduce the severity of the potential consequences. If this is a person's first DUI or OVI offense, a lawyer may negotiate for alternative sentencing or argue that there was a lack of probable cause.
