Man charged with drunk driving after father reports him

According to law enforcement officers, a man was charged with a DUI after the officers claim his blood alcohol level was almost three times the Ohio limit of 0.08 percent. The incident happened on Oct. 8 around 9:09 p.m. at the Mickey Mart in Greenwich.

Officers with the Greenwich Police Department said that the 28-year-old man's father called the police to report that the man was driving drunk. Police were told to watch for a silver Impala without tags. Officers reported that they saw the vehicle at the Mickey Mart. The man was reportedly standing outside of the car pumping gas. The officers reported that the car did have Ohio license plates on it and called the dispatcher back to make certain it was the correct car.

The officer said that he parked across the street and saw the man initially begin pulling out of the lot before returning to it. The officer then stopped him and claimed that the man almost jumped out of the car at him. He alleged that the man told him he had drank about eight beers and drove because no one would agree to take him to buy more beer. The man reportedly had a breathalyzer result of 0.217. The police report that he had three prior DUI convictions and three active suspensions on his license.

People who are charged with drunk driving may face serious penalties, including jail and significant fines if a conviction is obtained. When a person has had multiple convictions, the penalties become much more severe. In some cases, a criminal defense attorney can challenge the traffic stop that led to the arrest as being made without probable cause.
